Well insulated since It really kept the temperature to 70 F when exposed to 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
It's not the prettiest thing on the planet but I bought it to help cool the exauhst hose on my portable a/c. Normally, it would take easily 20 minutes for my ac to cool my small bedroom from 81 to 76 degrees and I live in California. Withinn 5 minutes of installing, it cooled the room down. I didn't use anything to seal it with. It was pretty snug around the hose. I didn't need to cut anything either. Happy so far!
Used for art studio shroud odor extraction. See attached .jpg with graphs showing before and after. Between this hose silencer and "floating" the fan on some thick foam rubber, the highest setting on the fan is now even quieter then the mid speed was originally.
I purchased the 6" x 8' hose to install on my portable air conditioner. Anyone that has one, you know the heat that radiates from the included hose is very high and inefficient. Although this hose does not look the prettiest, it is an absolute must for replacing the included hose on your conditioner. Running my air conditioner prior to this hose, I could only keep the room about 8 degrees below outside temps. After installing this hose, the room cools MUCH FASTER, and also gets about another 6 degrees cooler compared to the outside. An almost double cooling efficiency. This hose is room temp to touch, and feels like it contains >90% of the heat my previous hose allowed through. In addition, the air conditioner unit runs much quieter due to the sound insulation this hose provides. At least 30% of the noise from your AC is coming from the turbulent air flow rattling around inside the hard crimps of your standard plastic hose.
If you do purchase this hose for your AC, make sure to get a size slightly larger than the diameter of your input/output, so you can fix the hose to the exterior of the couplings with a good duct tape. Honestly, if you try to fix the hose to the interior, it seems like you might end up rupturing the lining and exposing the fiberglass inside, which would be bad. I used the larger size and it secures nicely in place with a good 3" wide duct tape.
This seemed a lot tougher than the metal tubes from the hardware stores. When I opened the box, I was glad. This was going to be used as the exhaust for my new kitchen range hoods and going in the attic so it was nice to see something that potential rodents may not be able to get through very easily and it was super long so no matter which side of the house I wanted the exit flap, there was enough length. I can't really speak to long term use because I just installed it a month ago. But for not having to leave my house, having this delivered, the length of it and the sturdiness of the duct. It was a good purchase.
